Visiting Mr. Green (2008)

A staged reading of the play written by Jeff Baron, directed by Justin Anderson.

Synopsis

It tells the story of 86-year-old Mr. Green, who is a devout Orthodox Jew. One day, he wanders into traffic, and is almost run over by a speeding car driven by Ross Gardner, a young corporate executive. Part of Ross’s court-ordered community service is to visit Mr. Green once a week, to help him with his needs. Ross doesn’t want to go, and Mr. Green doesn’t want him there, but the judge insists.

During the weekly visits, the men discover that they are both Jewish, although Ross is not a practicing Jew. Ross eventually reveals that he is gay, and shares the conflict that his sexual preference has created within himself and his family. This allows Mr. Green to reveal family conflicts and secrets of his own.
