Testimonials
See what patrons and community members are saying about the Jewish Theatre of Bloomington
The Jewish Theatre of Bloomington has been the total experience for me. Always an avid audience member, I was honored to join the board of directors and serve as treasurer, where I both interacted with energetic, creative colleagues and learned about stewardship and community relationships. Jewish Theatre of Bloomington brings thought-provoking, brilliantly staged productions to diverse audiences as well as serving a key role in the Bloomington arts community. I am proud to have been and continue to be a part of it.
Deb Allmayer, JTB Advisory Committee Member
I have been a supporter of Jewish Theatre of Bloomington for many years because it presents excellent theatre. The plays (chosen by Audrey Heller) speak not only to the Jewish experience but also to a wider audience of all faiths and beliefs. This is because the themes are insightful, thought provoking and universal in their delineation of the human condition.
Whether the plays center upon grandparent/grandchild relationships (“4000 miles”), collegiate understanding of academic integrity and the nature of tragedy (“Another Antigone”) or the horrors of a children’s opera made to perform in a Nazi concentration camp (“Brundibar”), the actors, staging and performance are always excellent.
Jewish Theatre of Bloomington is a jewel in our local theatre performances and its plays are a must-see for theatre goers.

Chad Rabinovitz, Artistic Director, Constellation Stage & Screen
JTB has a rich history of producing thought-provoking plays. It’s arguably more vital than ever that JTB continue to produce important work that explores the Jewish experience. We’re living through some of the most tumultuous times most of us have ever known, and JTB is a beacon of light and hope through them all. Some of my favorite acting and directing experiences have been JTB productions, and I’m honored to be a part of the company’s vibrant history. JTB has changed the world for the better.

I don't know what went on behind the scene, but from my vantage point, it was a beautiful and well run event with gorgeous music by Svetla, Krista, and Carrie and a sumptuous and handsomely presented spread. Thank you, Linda Whikehart for shepherding the committee and to everyone who helped bring this Spring fundraiser to life.
Audrey Heller, former JTB Producing Artistic Director
“This Simcha was a showcase of all that I love about Bloomington: A large swath of intelligent, literate people from different walks of life and with disparate backgrounds including politicians, professors, writers, musicians, artists, cultural enthusiasts and more —have come together to celebrate one of their own. Congratulations to Audrey Heller and the Jewish Theater of Bloomington!”
Rachel Hertz
“I've seen practically every production of the Jewish Theatre since it started more than 15 years ago. Every single one has been outstanding. The plays have been uniformly intriguing and the casting has been spot-on. Audrey Heller is a community treasure.”
Judy Schroeder, Retired VP of Communications, IU Alumni Association
“The JTB, over the years, has consistently produced a series of significant plays that explore in depth and from various angles Jewish culture and the challenges to what it means to be Jewish in various contexts. As such, the plays resonate with universal diasporic themes of belonging, marginalization, and individual and collective transformation. To its credit, the JTB has recruited teams of talented artistic and technical staff and actors from diverse backgrounds. The JTB has been a major player in making Bloomington the exciting theater scene that it has been in recent decades.”
Bob Arnove, Chancellor’s Professor Emeritus, IU
“The Jewish Theatre has consistently produced the most thoughtful, thought-provoking plays I’ve seen in my years in Bloomington.”
